South Africans impacted by cold front as July comes to an end.
Residents across parts of the Western Cape are continuing to experience the impact of a cold front that has brought widespread rainfall, strong winds and hazardous sea conditions. Weather authorities have urged the public to remain cautious as the adverse conditions are expected to persist across several coastal and inland areas.
The cold front has resulted in periods of moderate to heavy rain, increasing the risk of localised flooding in low-lying areas, while strong winds have created dangerous conditions along the coastline. Rough seas have also prompted warnings for fishermen, small vessels and beachgoers, with large waves and powerful swells expected to continue.
Across the country’s interior, cold morning temperatures are expected to make for icy starts to the day. Motorists travelling during the early morning hours have been advised to exercise extra caution, particularly in areas affected by rain, mist and reduced visibility. Wet roads can significantly increase stopping distances and the risk of accidents.
Emergency services remain on standby, while road users are encouraged to reduce speed, maintain safe following distances and switch on headlights when visibility is poor. Authorities are also advising residents to secure loose outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel in areas experiencing severe weather.
Weather officials will continue monitoring the system and issue further updates should conditions worsen. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official weather alerts and heed any safety instructions issued by local authorities.
