KwaZulu-Natal Weather Warnings Downgraded, But Flood Risk Remains

KwaZulu-Natal residents are being urged to remain vigilant despite the South African Weather Service (SAWS) downgrading some of its severe weather warnings across the province.

While conditions have begun to improve in several areas, authorities caution that the risk of flooding, dangerous roads and swollen rivers has not passed. An Orange Level 6 warning for disruptive rainfall remains in effect for the eThekwini Metro and parts of the south coast, while other southern regions of the province have been downgraded to a Yellow Level 2 warning. Provincial disaster management teams remain on high alert as they continue monitoring the impact of the weather system.

Officials warn that saturated ground, ongoing rainfall and overflowing waterways could still lead to localised flooding, particularly in low-lying communities and flood-prone areas. Motorists are advised to avoid driving through flooded roads or attempting to cross rivers and streams, as water levels can rise rapidly.

Residents are also encouraged to stay informed by following official SAWS weather updates and to report emergencies to local authorities if dangerous conditions develop. Emergency services remain on standby to respond to any weather-related incidents.

Although the worst of the weather may be easing in some parts of KwaZulu-Natal, authorities stress that caution should remain a priority until all warnings have been lifted.
