Firefighting Aircraft Deployed to Battle Table Mountain National Park Wildfire

Cape Town | Firefighting aircraft have been deployed to assist ground crews battling a wildfire in Table Mountain National Park, as emergency services work to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading.

The fire has prompted a coordinated response involving aerial firefighting teams, firefighters and other emergency personnel, who have been working in challenging conditions to bring the flames under control.

Authorities said water-bombing aircraft have been making repeated drops over affected areas while ground crews establish containment lines to protect nearby vegetation and infrastructure. Weather conditions, including wind speed and direction, continue to play a critical role in firefighting operations.

Officials have urged members of the public to avoid affected areas and to comply with any temporary trail closures or access restrictions implemented for public safety. Hikers and visitors have also been advised to monitor official updates before travelling to the national park.

The cause of the wildfire has not yet been confirmed, and investigations are expected once the fire has been brought under control. Authorities have appealed to the public to report any information that could assist investigators if suspicious activity is suspected.

Wildfires remain a recurring challenge in the Western Cape, particularly during periods of dry vegetation and strong winds. Emergency services have reminded residents and visitors to exercise caution when using open flames or engaging in activities that could increase the risk of veld fires.

Firefighters continue to monitor the situation closely, with aerial support expected to remain in operation while crews work to fully contain the blaze.
